The Fiber Blend
Aurea Maison bath tissue is made from a blend of bamboo and eucalyptus pulp. Each fiber is chosen for what it contributes.
Bamboo provides structure and strength. It is a fast-renewing grass that regrows from its own root system after cutting, without replanting, which makes it a responsible base material for a product that is used and replaced often.
Eucalyptus contributes a short, fine fiber. It is what gives the sheet its smoothness and its softness against the skin. Bamboo used on its own tends toward a firmer hand. Blending in eucalyptus resolves this, producing a sheet that holds its integrity in use while remaining soft to the touch.
Neither fiber is drawn from old-growth forest or from the slow-growing softwood pulp common to conventional tissue. The sheet is built in four plies, layered for cushion and consistency rather than bulk.
Color
The tones in our bath tissue come from non-toxic, water-based dyes. The color is set into the sheet rather than laid on top of it, so it holds in normal use and does not transfer onto skin.
Bleaching
The pulp is processed without added elemental chlorine, the source of the chlorinated byproducts associated with conventional paper bleaching.
Testing
We test on two fronts: what the product is free of, and how it behaves against skin.
Chemical screening
Our bath tissue is tested against the limit values of OEKO-TEX Standard 100, the international reference for materials in direct and prolonged contact with skin, and meets them across the substances screened:
- Formaldehyde
- Bisphenol A
- Per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS)
- Azo dyes, and allergenic and carcinogenic dyes
- Phthalates
- Parabens
- Heavy metals, including lead, cadmium, mercury and chromium
- pH, held within the range set for skin contact
Formaldehyde and parabens returned no detectable level.
Dermatological testing
Beyond what the product does not contain, we test how it behaves against skin. The product was evaluated in a repeated insult patch test: applied under patches to a panel of human subjects over several weeks, then challenged and read under the supervision of board-certified dermatologists.
